Bonjour mes amis,

Today I know I’ll stay here for a while and…
THIS
IS
FANTASTIC!

Today we talk about a band very significant to me for several reasons. It reminds me of old friends, songs and guitars, long nights walking around my city just talking, talking, talking, long travels driving a car just to go somewhere and try to create something unique…

Today we talk about “Pearl Jam“.

This American rock band from Seattle was born at the times the grunge movement was exploding around the world, during 1990s.
Leaded by the incredible and unmistakable vocalist Eddie Vedder, they released several albums (the last one, “Pearl Jam”, came out just last year) and since some years they started producing tons of own bootlegs, each of them reporting different pieces of their live concerts.

While always collaborating with different artists and involved in parallel projects (such as “Mad Seasons” and the super-group “Temple of The Dog” made up of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden) and solo albums (mainly the guitarist Stone Gossard), in the end, they are still together since the beginning.

The band has always reluctant to the music biz, not making (many) music videos and boycotting the famous TicketMaster, nevertheless they sold about 60 millions albums all over the world.

I must admit I found it very difficult to choose a song from their albums. I chose their debut album “Ten” that is simply awesome! Each song of the album could be taken as singles. Within the album I was undecided among three or four songs but, in the end, I chose one of the most significant to me, named “Black”, enjoy it in one of the best live versions:

I can’t believe it ….. a song that I actually know! Dome, you’re going far too mainstream ……. ;-)

Well, let’s also say that we could have chosen a merrier song … gosh, this guy can sing.

Black

Hey… oooh…
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did.
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn

Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything.
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything…

I take a walk outside
I’m surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear?
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I’m spinning, oh, I’m spinning
How quick the sun can drop away

And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything?
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything…

All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I’ll be… yeah…
Uh huh… uh huh… ooh…

I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life,
I know you’ll be a sun in somebody else’s sky, but why
Why, why can’t it be, why can’t it be mine

Aah… uuh..

Too doo doo too, too doo doo

Yeah… let someone else with better prose ask your questions for you, today, as any other day, we are busy saving the world, aren’t we?

Andre! You could make a song out these lines for sure! … or is it already and I don’t know it?
