And here we go again with the second day of this week. We are all waiting for the spring to come and visit Vienna but… it does not happen (yet). Knowing that tomorrow the month of April starts… well, that makes me think there is something wrong with the weather… at least here.

O-kappa, today we jump back in time and we watch a video from Jamiroquai.

This artist reminds me of my friend and brother Piero who was deeply into the music of this musician. Yesterday I talked to Piero who was in Rome with Fabio and both are fine and this is good. Piero has a beautiful child, Camilla and they (together with Simona, Piero’s wife) live happily in Grosseto. I’d like to meet them soon and hope it will happen. Jamiroquai means acid jazz, Ferrari, dancing, crazy videos, indian hats and much more.

We listen to the video for the song “Space Cowboy”:

You have no idea on how I liked the fact you appreciated the “covers’ week”. I must say that it was an idea like many others, just to give a little change to the usual “search for new stuff” approach that Gio spotted in one of the comments so far. Incidentally, that gave me the possibility to catch up during the time I spent in the wonderful city of Naples.

Lots of colors, emotions, sounds, food, as always! Thanks to the ones who where there and best wishes for the Cuomos.

Taking one of Andrea’s comments as one’s starting point, today we talk about Elisa.

Elisa Toffoli (or simply “Elisa”) is one of the most interesting female artists in the Italian musical scene. She comes from Trieste and in the beginning she became known for some songs he composed using English lyrics (one of the most famous was “Labyrinth”). Suddenly, she swapped to singing in Italian and (strange but true) her success not only remained stable but increased, giving the possibility to this beautiful and very talented artist to reach a larger number of people.

While alternating English and Italian songs, her name entered in the list of the pop (but not only) Italian stars, also quite famous abroad.

Today we listen to the song “Broken”, from my Elisa’s favourite album, that is Lotus:

And for the end of the week we have Aaron Lewis (the leader from the band “Staind”) performing the supreme “Black” (from Pearl Jam):

Enjoy your wonderful weekend, I’ll do it with mine.

Today I found something very special. I never thought that a band like Sepultura could have performed a cover from a U2 song and… I found a version of “Bullet the Blue Sky” (not too hard, indeed… but also not so different from the original):

And here we go again with a wonderful cover from a gorgeous CD I recently re-discovered in my library.
The song is “Time after time” from Cindy Lauper, performed in a great acoustic version by the Everything But The Girl:

Hi people,
As I’m in the mood of covers from other singers, I think I’ll keep this attitude for the whole week…
therefore, here we go with a wonderful “Redemption Song” (from Bob Marley), performed by Cassandra Wilson:

N-joy.

And here we go with a new week, full of things to happen. Full of surprises. The first surprise for today is that I’m going to post a video from Nirvana. The video is taken from the Unplugged concert (maybe the most famous unplugged session in the history of rock). The song is a cover from David Bowie’s original version of “The man Who Sold the WORLD”.

The second surprise is that I won’t talk about the Nirvana at all.

The third and last surprise is that I’m post the video and wishing you a great day. That’s it for today:

Finally this week is going to end. Yesterday I was incredibly impressed by the weather… we really had kind of four seasons rotating in a day (snowing in the morning and the afternoon, a little bit of sun, temperature btwn 0 and 8 degrees…) well, I’d say 4 Viennese seasons (because the summer in Vienna could be with 8 degrees too). That’s quite scary, if you think about the absolute and unpredictable entropic behavior.

While hoping the weekend will be better, here we come with another artist, the last for this week, Melissa Auf Der Mar.

MAdM is a Canadian rock musician who currently resides in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (so many good things come from Canada… especially from Montreal).

First time I saw her was in the video of “Hollywood” a song from the band “Hole”, lead by Courtney Love, where she was a bass guitar player. Then I saw her in another video, this time with the Smashing Pumpkins (not the new ones but one of the versions around 2000). Now I discover that she has an own project called simply Auf Der Mar.
It was funny to learn that Melissa became friend with Billy Corgan (Mr. Smashing Pumpkins) after apologizing for a friend who threw a beer bottle at him during one of The Smashing Pumpkins’ Canadian concert dates.

Today we will watch the video for the song “Real A Lie”:

Enjoy and have a good weekend.

Almost done with this week. I’m actually fighting against a Tom-Tom that doesn’t want to be taken by force and with a certain number of practical and organizational tasks that are pending on my list of “to do things”. On top of that, today I have a presentation of a chapter of CISSP and I have to recall a couple of concept that I wanted to understand in a deeper way.

Well, let’s have a look at today’s band. We have the White Rose Movement.

This London band is tagged as “post-punk/electro” and it’s cool to learn they have been compared to other bands like Joy Division (I should definitively have a post on them) but also… Duran Duran, Depeche Mode (I agree on this one). They played around since 2006 as supporters of more known bands like Placebo or The Rakes and in some big festival like Coachella and Benicassim.

All these comparisons… let me know what you do think about that after listening to the song “Love Is A Number”:

Hi there, here we come with another adventurous day in Vienna. Of course I’m kidding, cos here there are not so many adventures to face. Fortunately I can survive without long traffic jams in the car or metro/trains/bus that never come, or the usual sentences like “well, that’s it and we have to cope with it…”… but unfortunately I can’t survive too long to the absence of sun, to the view of the sea and some other things that make my city and my country so “unique” (pun intended!).

To complete this depressing picture (I’m talking about the weather, because they say tomorrow should even snow!), let’s listen to a song from the band She Wants Revenge.

This so-called “darkwave” duo (you will realized the reason of such a term) comes from Los Angeles, California. Their music is inspired from various bands including Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, The Cure and New Order. The band has been compared to other bands like Joy Division (!) and Interpol. However, their music takes on a predominantly electronic edge to their respective style.

Let’s come to the music and in this case the song “These Things”:
