Early morning’ soul February 10, 2009

Hi my “people of the sun”, today I came very early to the office because I have to save some hours for the end of the month… therefore I’ll be pretty tired soon! Meanwhile I enjoy the fact that there is a lot of silence in the office and I can work a little more before the usual work-phone-calls-work-work-work-chat-phone-call-people-entering-my-office-without-knocking-the-door… will start!

Today we continue the trail we started yesterday with the beautiful voice of India Arie.

I must admit I didn’t know anything about this singer before Julia told me about her. Now I know a little bit more. For example I know that she comes from Denver, Colorado. I know their parents were pretty important to her career, pushing for her to develop it. In fact, her mother is a former singer but is now her… stylist. Besides the love for the guitar, this artist can also play the flute, is a songwriter and also a producer.

Let’s come to the song I chose for today’s post, that is “Beautiful Flower”, played live and acoustic. This song was written to help out the children of Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy For Girls in South Africa:

knew her since her first album, she’s very talented and not one of those pretty, meaningless r’n’b singers that MTV created. Good choice Julia!

beautiful, beautiful voice, neat song.

This is a song for
Every girl who’s
Ever been through something
She thought she couldn’t make it through, yeah
I sing these words because
I was that girl, too
Wanting something better than this
But who do I turn to?

Now we’re moving from the darkness into the light
This is the defining moment of our lives

Cause you’re beautiful
Like a flower
More valuable
Than a diamond
You are powerful
Like a fire
You can heal the world
With your mind and
There is nothing in the world that you cannot do
When you believe in you
Who are beautiful (yeah you)
Who are brilliant (yeah you)
Who are powerful (yeah you)
Who are resilient

This is a song for
Every girl who
Feels that she is not special
Cause she don’t look like a supermodel Coke bottle
The next time the radio tells you
To shake your money-maker
Shake your head and tell them
Tell them you’re a leader

Now we’re moving from the darkness into the light
This is the defining moment of our lives

Cause you’re beautiful
Like a flower
More valuable
Than a diamond
You are powerful
Like a fire
You can heal the world
With your mind and
There is nothing in the world that you cannot do
When you believe in you
Who are beautiful (yeah you)
Who are brilliant (yeah you)
Who are powerful (yeah you)
Who are resilient (yeah you)
Who are beautiful (yeah you)
Who are brilliant (yeah you)
Who are powerful (yeah you)
Who are resilient (yeah you)

This song is for you
Yeah you
This song is for you
Yeah you
This song is for you
Yeah you
Yeah you
You are brilliant
