Sananda Maitreya?! February 16, 2009

And here we start with a Monday full of things to do. I actually decided not to continue to learn French (at least not for this semester) and then I’ll concentrate on “mein Deutsch!” and on other stuff I have in my mind.

Today I will talk about Terence Trent D’Arby.

It’s so strange how it happens that someone disappears for years and you don’t know where this person ended up to and, suddenly you find that the person just… changed the name! Yes, the artist known as Terence Trent D’Arby, the guy whose debut album “Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby…” reached the top hit charts and made him became quite famous, this guy now is called Sananda Maitreya!

I found that: he adopted the name Sananda Maitreya, following a series of dreams (!). His name was legally changed to Sananda Maitreya on October 4, 2001. He proclaimed in an interview that “Terence Trent D’Arby was dead…he watched his suffering as he died a noble death,” in what was perceived as an attempt to reinvent himself artistically and free himself from what he believed to be the oppressive nature of the record business.

Mah! I like to remember the time when I was listening to the song “Sign Your Name”, that today I share with you:

i HAD to go and check and yes, it’s the 80s again (album released 1987), for some reason i thought this was much later, yet there was that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ in the music …

fortunately you’ve got someone who relies on you
we started out as friends
but the thought of you just caves me in
the symptoms are so deep
it’s so much too late to turn away
we started out as friends
sign your name across my heart
i want you to be my baby
sign your name across my heart
i want you to be my lady
time i’m sure will bring
disappointments in so many things
it seems to be the way
when your gambling cards on love you olay
i’d rather be in hell with you baby
then in cool heaven, it seems to be the way
sign your name across my heart
i want you to be my baby
sign your name across my heart
i want you to be my lady
birds never look into the sun
before the day is gone
but ohthe light shines bright
in a peacefull day, stranger blue leave us alone
we don’t want to deal with you
we’ll shed our stains showering
in the room that makes the rain
all alone with you, makes the butterflies in me arise
slowly we make love, and the earth rotates on our dictates
slowly we make love……………
sign your name across my heart……
