Nkosi Sikeleli Africa! February 19, 2009

Posted by Domenico in Music.

Hi there. Have you ever heard about the “Sound of Silence”, this song is considered (or maybe it is… I don’t know) the equivalent of the “Pater Noster” and the two musicians who composed the song are Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Today we talk about the first of the two, Mr. Paul Frederic Simon.

The first time I saw a performance of this American musician was while watching one of his videos on DJ Television, a musical program that existed when I was a teenager. The song was “You can call me Al” and he was with Arfunkel, dancing in a funny way, playing several different instruments and singing a nice song.

I’ve never forgotten that video, don’t know the reason why but it’s like that. Then I learned that Paul Simon was famous also for other songs (like the famous “Mrs. Robinson”, that reminds me of the movie “The Graudate” and of the Lamonheads’ respective cover) and for his support to the African people and the fight against the apartheid.

And today we watch (listen to) a live version of the song “Diamonds on the soles of her shoes”, played during a concert in Zimbabwe:
