The Way I Am March 2, 2009

Hey boy, hey girls… here we go! That was the start of an old (but very cool) song that made thousands of people dancing at the times when people like FatBoy Slim, Chemical Bros and Co. were seen like heroes of the dancefloor. Actually I don’t know why I’m talking about these artists… especially on a Monday morning! Maybe it’s an inconscious (and not even so inconscious…) instinct of refusing the working week and going back to the party-music-dancing life.

Maybe one way to contrast this instinct is to talk about Ingrid Michaelson.

Ingrid Ellen Michaelson is 29-yrs-old and is a New York-based indie-pop singer-songwriter. Her music has been featured in episodes of several popular US television shows, including Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill, as well as in Old Navy’s Fall 2007 Fair Isle advertising campaign. I don’t know whether this is a plus for her…

The only thing I know is that I did listen to a song from this singer on the ORF television. It was during the morning, when you are in a rush for going to work, then just one song catches your attention… and there it goes… you start singing in the background of the day.

Now, without exagerating too much, the song I’d like to share with you is quite nice. The song is “The Way I Am”, played live during a TV show (just skip the first part if you’re not interested in the interview):

sweet. nothing more, but still sweet.

If you were falling, then I would catch you
You need a light, I’d find a match

Cuz I love the way you say good morning
And you take me the way I am

If you are chilly, here take my sweater
Your head is aching; I’ll make it better

Cuz I love the way you call me baby
And you take me the way I am

I’d buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair
Sew on patches to all you tear

Cuz I love you more than I could ever promise
And you take me the way I am
You take me the way I am
You take me the way I am
