Animal House March 5, 2009

Posted by Domenico in Music.

Hola mi chicos y chicas. Hoy yo quiedo de ablar un poquito de Espanol. Yo no sabe el porque, pero me gusta asi’!
The funny thing (Yes, let’s switch to English) is that I never studied Spanish and am quite sure I wrote something wrong (at least one mistake) in the sentences above. But, do we care!? No, we don’t. I challenge you to correct my sentences (if you want and wish and have time to).

Meanwhile you try to follow me in the Spanish experience, I switch to something different and speak about the Animal Collective.

This musical “beasty” collective comes from Maryland (I have good memories of that area, but that’s another story). The peculiarity of the band is that the lineup is not uniform. Funny to know, the band members met in school and started recording together in various forms of collaboration from a young age. Although their music is often classified by critics as “psych folk” or “noise rock”, it is hard to define the Animal Collective sound as they often experiment with diverse styles and ideas from album to album. The group also runs the record label “Paw Tracks” on which they have released their own material as well that of other artists.

I’m not such a big fun of these guys but nevetheless I can’t ignore that their name is quite knwon in some kind of musical scene and, as they recently released a new album, I got the opportunity to share one of their videos with you, that is “My Girls”:

1. Gio - March 5, 2009

This was strange! But all right. But strange! Neither the text nor the music was what I expected, still somehow it worked.

Is it much that I feel I need
A solid soul and the blood I bleed
With a little girl, and by my spouse
I only want a proper house

I don’t care for fancy things
Or to take part in a precious race
And children cry for the one who has
A real big heart and a father’s grace

I don’t mean to seem like I care about material things like a social status
I just want four walls and adobe slabs for my girls
