And after the tribute to Dr.C. who could be visiting the BLOG as a contributor more often in the future… We’re back to daily business and we’re more than happy that this is a short week and tomorrow is holiday and that, as for most of the week, today we have another hip-hop song (I know Gio, you’re so happy for this that you’re going to cry…).

So, today we have the Clipse.

This American hip hop duo comes from Virginia and is made up of brothers Gene “Malice” Thornton and Terrence “Pusha T” Thornton. They met Pharrell (this guy is almost everywhere) in 1993, and being impressed with their lyrical talents, he formed a working relationship with the duo and helped them secure a contract with Elektra Records. In the beginning it wasn;t so easy for them to have success, cos the group’s debut single was a flop, but Mr. Williams resuscitated their careers in the early 2000s, signing them to his Star Trak Label.

This year they are going to release the third album, that means they succeeded in getting some visibility and this is proved by the several collaborations they had with Pharrell, Jay Z and others.

Today’s song is one of their collaborations, in fact the song “What Happened To That Boy” is played with Baby & Pharrell:

Enjoy your weekend.

And this time, we managed to get the POST from Roberto…

Hello everyone,

i hope you all enjoyed the party because i did very much. I liked the fact of playing music for such a various audience, and as Domenico knows, the most difficult thing when you have to make dance people is to make dance people with so many different tastes in music. Anyway last Saturday it seemed to me that everything went fine cause the people whom i spoke with they all had fun so i guess i did a good job.

Now let’s skip to the point, the music.

The artist which i’m introducing you today is a young talented reggae singer from Germany and his name is Gentleman. Yes even in the cold Germany they make good reggae music not only in the sunny Jamaica, that’s the legacy that Bob Marley left us after spreading his seeds all over the world, so now we have great reggae musician not only from Germany, but for instance from New Zeland or from Israel ( not mentioning the Sud Sound System from Italy, but those guys are around since almost 20years so they are not a newcomers ).

Gentleman earned the respect of all the jamaican reggae scene with his music and many of the most important artist collaborated with him in making his albums ( Sizzla, Luciano, Antony B and Barrington Levy justfor quoting some), and this means that this guy has something to say and he say that in his own personal way, not simply using old cliches of reggae music.

So the song I’m posting is for you today is called “Superior”:

RESPECT!

P.S. I dedicate this one to Julia, keep this lady tight to you Mr P.

Last Sunday I went to the concert of Busta Rhymes, together with my friend Karin. That was my B-day’s present from her.

The concert was good but weird.

Good because that guy is a showman, someone that can involve all the audience, with no distinction for age and nationality, someone with a strong voice, someone on the blocks since more than 20 years, the faster MC I’ve ever known. This guy invented his own style, something you’d recognize everywhere, like his business card.

Weird because the concert was supposed to start at 21:00 but there were 1 DJ and 2 Austrian hip-hop bands before him and it started at 23:00 and lasted just 40 minutes, with all the songs in a row without a pause, like a bullet from a gun! Weird because Busta Rhymes is FAT, incredibly FAT, because after the first song he fell from the stage and went between the audience (with all his staff running worried out from the backstage), because there were 80% of youngsters, then 19% of older people (beside Karin and I, there were veeery old ones) and 1% of junkies that I was proud of (because they spent money to attend a concert).

Bottom line, the FAT Busta still rocks (I don’t consider his last new album that he said – at least 3 times – it will be released in 3 weeks) and that’s why he deserves to have another post on this BLOG. This one is for the song “Woo Hah!!”, feat. Ol’ Dirty Bastard:

Peace (T)

Today we have a guest star that left me a page to be posted on the BLOG. Some of you know him and some other have been delighted by his music at last week’s party. Of course, I’m talking about Roberto “Dr.C.-Mushroom” Cuomo. I leave him the floor so that he can choose the artst and the respective music.

Ooops…. I don’t know what happened but the comment Roberto put… it just disappeared!

OK, we’ll try it again tomorrow. Now we got some Cypress Hill stuff for you all. This is Tequila Sunrise:

Unexpectedly, I finished the most of the music preparation (very late in the night) and I’m just waiting for Dr.C. to agree on another aspect/project related to the party… but then, we should be ready to roll! While waiting for the event, I’m so into hip-hop that today I’m posting something from Pharrell.

Pharrell Williams (who is actually born on April 5, 1973… just one day older than me!), commonly known as Pharrell, is an American music producer, singer-songwriter and rapper. Besides being the lead singer and drummer of rock band N.E.R.D (we talked about them on the BLOG), which he formed with Chad Hugo and childhood friend Shay Haley, he made the record production duo “The Neptunes” where, together with Chad Hugo, they produce pop, hip hop and R&B music. As you will imagine (that’s why there is a post only on him), he’s also a solo musician and released his debut album in 2006.

Something I didn’t know, he is also the co-founder of the clothing brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear.

So, let’s watch together the video for the song “Frontin”:

Enjoy your weekend and see you at the party. Domenico

Today I’m still in the “search mood”. I gotta prepare the music for the party and actually haven’t even finished to decide what/where to look for. I know there are much more serious problems in life and, with respect to that, yesterday I was so happy to get a mail from my friend Francesca La Cardona. She’s fine, she’s cool, she so much herself!!!

Good news is that I know what to post today and this is already a result. Today we have the Fugees.

This hip hop group (I know, hip hop again… Gio, don’t worry, you will get even more at the party) rose to fame in the mid-1990s. They played some hip-hop mixed with different other genres like reggae or caribbean. All the members of the group are now famous: the rapper/singer/producer Wyclef Jean, rapper/singer Lauryn Hill, and rapper Pras Michel.

I think whichever song I was going to choose for this post, it would have been so foreseen. That’s why I picked up “Killing me Softly”:

Enjoy. Domenico

Today I’m going to the dentist.
Some of you could say… so?! I know it’s not such an interesting news. The fact is that I feel such a pain since a week that I really look forward to 16:00 when I’ll be there and hope that later on (well, not immediately) I’ll feel a little bit better, to be ready to go to Ingmar’s exhibition that will occur somewhere in the city center (still have to check where exactly).

After the news from Pistillo’s world, let’s come to the musical side. It’s a couple of days since I’ve listened to a couple of their songs on Austrian radio station and I can’t stop waking up and singing something from the Black Eyed Peas.

This American hip hop group comes from Los Angeles. Their most famous album is Elephunk in 2003, form which I don’t know how many hit singles have been extracted. I remember that during my first month here in Vienna (2004) I was listening so many times the song “Where is the Love” over the radio that it was more or less like today when you turn the radio on and after approx 30 minutes there is “Lady Gaga” singing.

Forthunately, Will.I.Am and Co. have continued their musical production and I found a song that I never heard, that is “Bebot”:

Finally, the end of this week has arrived. Looking for some good weather (someone told me it should rain, though) to come and some rest and sport and walking and fresh air, etc., etc. Well, I’m not superstitious but today is Friday the 17th and in Italy this is baaaaad luck. Let’s see….

Meanwhile, I found a nice way to close this week, with some indie rock from Australia, that is The Oyster Murders.

The band’s name is a reference to a scene in the book, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland “.
To have an idea of which kind of music you will listen to, Rave magazine described the band’s first release as the “extended play love child of Radiohead and Interpol”.
Others said that in a recent interview with Scene Magazine, the singer elaborated on the upcoming albums direction by saying that “the band has been listening to a lot of Beatles and Sonic Youth of late, so you can expect a possible post apocalyptic Strawberry Fields vibe with some of the newer material”.

In the end, let’s listen to the track “This Town Won’t Sleep”:

Have a great weekend. Do-me-ni-co
